PEST, POLLINATOR, PROTEIN.
Humanity’s endlessly contradictory relationship with insects and food.

THE CHALLENGE
Insects go under-recognized in the versatile roles they play in our food systems: the bad, the good, and the future. I was inspired to elevate the wonderful and weird lives they live through a one-of-a-kind publication.

SOFTWARE
InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

THE FORM
Every part of the physical construction was guided by by insects: from the triadic structure referencing the three-part bodies of insects, to the beetle-like iridescent section seperators.

The hardcover slip case and bright green interior are inspired by the shell/innards of my childhood pet Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.

Using a 3 part grid allowed for controlled chaos within my image and type placement.

THE PROCESS
This project taught me the importance of iteration and testing when trying experimental forms. I was able to enhance my understanding of styles, bookbinding, and printing techniques.
